What's the bag policy for Ohayocon, or does it have one? I know, when I went to MTAC down in Nashville, we weren't allowed to bring any kind of bag into the dealers' room. (Which really kind of sucked because I was wearing a skirt and had no place to put my wallet because I couldn't take in my purse.)

While it may suck, you have to look at it from their perspective as well. How easily could one just grab a DVD or CD or what-have-you and put it in their bag, then claim they bought it earlier, or they lost the receipt for it.

My recommendation is to have clothes that has pockets to have your wallet in or purse. Basically go in there without a bag, and leave with one since they will give you a bag that you bought your stuff in. Its easier that way personally since you go in without one and you leave with bags that you can just take to your hotel room to drop it off.

I think bags into the Deal's Room was fine... I had no problem with my bags last year...Though maybe it's because I didn't have one? ...Yeah, I don't remember... If it's not too crowded that is- I think smaller bags are reasonable, but I know what you mean with "stealing" things and whatnot, though some people can do that without a bag because they're sneaky, though I wouldn't know who would want to in the chance of getting caught...

Possible cosplays for Ohayocon'11: Riku (KH2), Undertaker (Kuro), Genesis (FFviiCC)

I am quite indecisive when it comes to which cosplays I will be wearing for any con so be fair warned.

Last year (and years before) I've always carried my purse/ bag around. I've never been stoped for having it in the dealers room. Personaly I'd find it unbearable not to have it with me. Being a woman it's something that we carry everywhere we go. Unless they change the rules it's ok to have a bag. It would probably be a good idea to make sure it wasn't huge though O.o

Oh, don't get me wrong, I totally understand how they could be paranoid about people stealing stuff! My problem was that I was wearing a skirt like the entire con and I was going into a crowded Dealer's room where my wallet could have very easily been dropped and lost. I suppose I could have stuck it down my shirt, but that's a bit crass, yeah?

I'm going to be wearing a skirt at Ohayocon, too. Well, except for Friday. I'll be wearing jeans Friday. But, yeah, I kind of need a purse because I'm gonna be driving back and forth from my brother's apartment to the con (hehehe naughty me, cheating hotels out of their money by staying with relatives who live closer to Columbus than me) and so I need somewhere to keep my keys and...well, anything I find necessary. That's why purses are essential to us women. Hahaha.

But, yeah, it's not going to be anything ginormous, so hopefully it'll be okay.

I live in colmbus so for the last three years I've been commuting to the con and I understand the whole need a place to hold my stuff situation, I've been going into the dealers room with a bag for the past three years from what I can remember. Although this year they are changing the location of the dealers room that might also affect policies such as bag policies. But if you are using a small purse for the small essential there shouldn't be a problem either way.

This year it won't be a dealer's room, I think, it'll be more like a dealer's hall. At least that's why I've come to understand. In my opinion, it should make it easier to allow bags. The booths shouldn't be so packed together, which would make it harder to shove something into a bag. =] I think you'll be fine.

The Dealer's Room head will have the final say in all this but...
In the past as long as items weren't oversize and could be controlled and not impede traffic flow they have been permitted in the Dealer's room.
We will be in a new space this year so things may change (or not) the best bet is to keep purses and bags small as those will likely not cause problems.

Wow, it isn't gonna be where it was last year? That's a change of things....

I have a question: I'm going as Amulet Spade from Shugo Chara! most of the time, and I am gonna be carrying around a Giant Paint Brush, so since it's not gonna be in the crowded room like last year, is it possible that I will be able to carry it around, but without it, my cosplay is not complete, and if you know Amulet Spade, you might get what I mean.

As I said before if items are not oversize and controllable they will likely be permitted. At this point it is impossible to say yes to specific items. Once the Dealer's Head has the room the way they want it and Security can see how the flow will be they will make their calls on the spot.
If an item or prop is big there is always a chance they will say no to it.

Thanks so much! It's worth a try anyways!

I took my bag in with me last year, and no one said anything to me about it.

But I would recommend not carrying a purse around with you because:

a) it's hard to get to your room to drop it off if you decide you don't want to lug it around
cool.gif if you set it down somewhere to take pictures, or anything like that, then it could get stolen

but, again, they never said anything about my purse last year in the Dealer's room. But it wasn't a huge tote bag or anything.
It was just a small bag that fit right under my arm. c:
